Ancient Assyrians

I have always been fascinated by the ancient Assyrians because of their capacity for cruelty and for their technological and cultural advancement the coexisted with their vary warlike civilization.
The Assyrians were perhaps one of the cruelest civilisations to have existed. Their kings boasted of skinning people alive and assembling massive piles of heads in front of cities. Plundering and raping nations was just the beginning of an invasion with this ancient empire.
Do you think Americans could become this cruel?
(These are some of the first miniatures I painted for building an ancient army:)
( all miniatures are 28mm foundry Assyrians)

Hey man, great work! I followed your post on my coin blog and wow, nice miniatures. I used to be a scale modeler myself, and helped my son do a diorama of an Assyrian seige of Jerusalem. While we didn't paint the individual figures (we didn't have time), we did build a wall and some seige engines. The images are here:

Not great, but if we painted it up nicely it would be even better.

Nice blog!

Maybe not as cruel at the Assyrians, directly, but our willful neglect of children, homeless, minorities, Iraq, etc, could be counted as that, in the effect it is having on people's lives.
